Vera gave him a glance, "What’s it got to do with you?"This line, of course, was a joke.

Kris Cooper reached out his hand and gently placed it on her belly, leaning close to her ear and speaking softly.

"Without my hard work, how would he be here?"

Vera slapped him.

"Get lost!"

Vera saw Nathan Leafcastle again three days after he woke up. After spending three full days recovering in the ICU, his condition had improved significantly.

Though he still looked pale and worn out, his eyes were as sharp as ever.

Michael Freenan and the assistant patiently finished taking his statement before leaving the ward.

Having spoken quite a bit, he was very tired by now. When he saw Vera walk in, he merely lifted his lips into a pale smile for her.

"You guys chat, I’ll fetch some water!"

Sally Dalton considerately stood up, grabbed the water bottle, and walked out of the ward.

Walking over to sit by his bed, Vera returned his smile.

"Sorry, I’m only seeing you now."

Nathan Leafcastle gently shook his head, slightly turned his face to gaze at her for a moment, then took a deep breath.

"I’m sorry, Vera."

Vera lifted her lips, "This isn’t your fault. You don’t need to apologize to me."

"I mean..." Nathan Leafcastle’s eyes were full of regret, "About my mom."

Just earlier, Michael Freenan had recorded his statement, successfully informing him of Liliana Davis’s falling accident. Only now did Nathan Leafcastle realize that Kris Cooper truly had nothing to do with it.

He glanced up, looking through the glass window at Kris Cooper.

"Please, tell Mr. Cooper that I... I’m really sorry, and... thank him for saving me."

Vera didn’t continue the topic, instead gently holding his arm.

"How’s the wound? Does it still hurt?"

He chuckled softly.

"A little."

Vera looked towards the door, and leaned slightly closer to him.

"Brother Nathan, you know, Sister Sally... is pregnant!"

"What?!"

Nathan Leafcastle was taken aback.

While he was in a coma, he seemed to vaguely hear something similar. At the time, he thought it was just his imagination. After waking up, Sally Dalton never mentioned it again, and he was too exhausted and sleepy every day to think much about it.

Now, hearing Vera reveal the truth, Nathan Leafcastle was extremely shocked.

"When you hadn’t woken up before, she was crying all the time. That’s when we found out." Vera turned her face to look toward the door. Sally Dalton had already returned with the water bottle, so Vera didn’t continue, "Alright, you’ve talked so much, you must be tired. We’ll go now and see you another day."

Standing up, Vera smiled at Sally Dalton and walked out of the ward. Kris Cooper immediately came up to her, and they left together.

Sally Dalton saw them to the door, watched them walk away before turning back into the ward. She immediately poured some warm water for Nathan Leafcastle, tested the temperature carefully, and put a straw in the cup, offering it to his mouth.

"Drink some water and get some rest!"

Without touching the cup, Nathan Leafcastle’s eyes fixed on her face, and he softly spoke.

"Sally, are you pregnant?"

Sally Dalton’s fingers trembled slightly, struggling to maintain composure.

"How... how did you know?"

"Vera told me."

Sally Dalton withdrew her hand holding the cup, "Oh."
