Chapter 778: The Leader of the Fox Demon
Chapter 778: The Leader of the Fox Demon
Qingyi, Xielang, and the boss were packing their bags, preparing to descend the mountain as planned. Morning dew still clung to the grass, and the air was filled with the moist scent of vegetation. Suddenly, the communication talisman hanging from his waist hummed, and a red glow emanated from the edges. Qingyi's heart tightened, and he crushed the talisman with his fingertips. A line of hurried handwriting flashed across his palm before dispersing in smoke.
"Something's happened!" Qingyi suddenly looked up at the evil wolf tying the ropes, his tone filled with unprecedented urgency, "Old Four has been attacked. He's been surrounded by a group of demons in the western valley. We have to go and support him immediately!"
Upon hearing this, the evil wolf, not caring about what he was holding, dropped his backpack to the ground with a clang. Demonic energy suddenly surged around him, and with a muffled "bang," he transformed into a giant wolf half the height of a man—his pitch-black fur glistening in the morning light, his limbs bulging with muscles, his sharp fangs bared, and a deep growl emanated from his throat: "Come up!"
Qingyi and the eldest brother exchanged a glance, no longer hesitating. Taking advantage of the wolf's downward thrust, they leaped swiftly onto its back. The eldest brother held his twin axes across his chest, while Qingyi gripped his whisk tightly, the silver threads trembling slightly at his wrists. The wolf howled softly, its hooves slamming into the ground. Like a flash of black lightning, it rushed in the direction indicated by the communication talisman. The mountain wind whistled in their ears, and the trees on either side retreated rapidly. The speed was even faster than they had anticipated.
Elsewhere, in the western valley, the fourth brother was trapped by four demons beneath a rock wall, with nowhere to retreat. He leaned against the cold rock, his right hand gripping the short knife at his waist, the hilt damp with sweat. His eyes glared coldly at the enemy, a defiant sneer playing on his lips. "You've followed me for so long, from the foot of the mountain all the way to this desolate ridge. Do you really think I, the fourth brother, am easy to bully, or are you just tired of living and think my life is too long?"
The leader was a white-faced fox demon, transformed into a humanoid form, wearing a crimson dress. Her eyes held a strange allure. She ran a nail-painted finger across her pointed chin, sneering, "Death? Who's going to die? Young Master, you should know that our demon tribe has rules—you're not allowed to enter human territory without permission, and we're not allowed to let mortals know of our existence. Since you've caught us, you still expect to leave alive? That's a bit naive."
The fourth one raised an eyebrow and deliberately slowed down his tone to buy time: "Just the four of you? A fox demon with three bastards who can't even transform properly—" He glanced at the snake demon beside him, shrinking its neck and spitting out its tongue, and the two small demons with half of their bodies still in bear form, "You dare to say you want to kill me? I'm afraid you're not even enough to fill my teeth."
The snake demon next to him was the most violent. When his sore spot was poked, he immediately raised his head, hissing with his scarlet tongue, and roared, "You're looking for death! I'll tear your mouth apart, and see how you can still be so arrogant!" As he said that, he arched his body and rushed forward.
"What's the hurry?" The fox demon raised a hand to stop him, his nails painted bright red, but his eyes were staring at the fourth brother sinisterly. "This kid must have some real skills to be sent by the Tiger Sect to escort the Sect Master. Don't fall for his delaying tactics. I want to see what kind of reinforcements he's waiting for."
The fourth brother was startled—this fox demon was quite astute, having seen through his thoughts. But he remained expressionless, instead laughing. "Reinforcements? I'm more than enough to handle a bunch of you idiots. But then again, haven't you demons always been afraid of us cultivators? Today, you've become quite bold, taking the initiative to provoke us."
"Afraid?" The fox demon chuckled softly, covering her lips as if she had heard something ridiculous. "Before, I was afraid of your numbers, but now in this desolate wilderness, no one will come to save you even if you scream at the top of your lungs. Besides, do you think we haven't checked? Your so-called Fierce Tiger Sect is only capable of this, and the guards they sent are nothing but average."
"Really?" The fourth brother deliberately drew out his words, his eyes secretly observing the movements around him, his ears catching sounds in the distance - hurried footsteps and the howling of wolves on the wind. He was delighted, but his face was full of sarcasm. "Then do you know why I didn't hide and run away?"
The fox demon narrowed his eyes, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes: "Tell me about it."
"Because I know you're from the fox tribe." The fourth brother spread his hands, his tone more sarcastic. "You foxes are the best at tracking, and your noses are sharper than dogs'. Even if I were invisible, you could still smell me and catch up. Why waste your energy?"
This statement hit the nail on the head with the fox tribe's tracking technique. The snake demon roared again, "Stop talking nonsense! I'm not going to—"
"Shut up!" The fox demon shouted. She felt something was wrong. The fourth brother's calmness was too abnormal. Her eyes became more alert. "Don't waste time talking to him. Let's attack together and finish this quickly!"
The three little demons immediately took attacking stances. The rabbit demon showed its sharp claws, the snake demon coiled up and prepared to strike, and the bear demon growled and beat its chest, demonic energy surging in the valley.
The fourth brother gripped his dagger tightly and took a deep breath—now is the time! Qingyi and the others should be here soon! He kicked his foot hard and rushed out like an arrow. The dagger flashed a cold light in the sunlight as he rushed straight towards the bear monster in front.
The fourth brother knew that he was no match for the four demons alone. The fox demon was particularly cunning, and while the other three lesser demons weren't very skilled, if they joined forces to attack him, he wouldn't be able to hold out for long. His only hope was to stall for as long as possible until Qingyi and the evil wolf arrived.
The fox demon saw through his plan, a playful smile playing on her lips as she glanced at the two burly bear demons beside her—one with a crescent-shaped scar on his chest, the other missing half an ear. They were none other than Big Bear and Little Bear. "Big Bear, Little Bear, I'll leave this brat to you two," she said casually, as if dismissing a trivial matter. "Make this a quick decision, don't waste time."
Big Bear muttered a muffled "Okay," then slammed his palm, like a palm-leaf fan, onto the ground, shaking the gravel beneath his feet. He grinned, revealing his yellowed fangs, and charged at Old Four. The wind he kicked up carried a strong, fishy smell, and his fists swung with such force that they smashed into Old Four's face.
Xiong Er also laughed, his laughter as raspy as a broken gong. He didn't rush forward like Xiong Da, but instead circled to the side, arms outstretched, trying to cut off Lao Si's escape route. The two bear monsters, one on the left and one on the right, coordinated perfectly. Their massive bodies almost filled the narrow part of the valley, trapping Lao Si in the middle.
The fourth brother's pupils shrank, and he quickly changed his footwork, narrowly avoiding the big bear's fist. The fist smashed into the stone wall behind him with a loud bang, sending rubble flying, demonstrating the incredible force. He thought to himself that this was not good - these two bear monsters looked clumsy, but they were not slow. A head-on confrontation would definitely not end well.
