Chapter 260: Clara & Damian
Chapter 260: Clara & Damian
The black SUV rolled to a halt beside the beach just after midnight. The engine died quietly, leaving only the endless sound of waves and the low whisper of ocean wind under the full moon.
Inside the backseat, Clara sat with her hands folded tightly on her lap while staring through the tinted windows with growing confusion.
Nothing about today made sense.
At exactly five in the evening she had expected Damian to pick her up. Instead Loth arrived.
Without explanation, the woman had taken her shopping to the most expensive stores, designer dresses and jewelry. They even went as far as to completely replace her old furnitures.
Loth even got her a car!
Everything happened so quickly Clara barely had time to protest before another thing appeared in front of her.
By the time workers finished upgrading her small home hours had passed. Then she was told to wear the red gown for the planned date which was now taking place at midnight.
The entire journey has been uncomfortable for her. She felt weirded out and only followed because of her desire to see Damain.
Her heart had remained restless the entire day until when she saw him standing alone near the water in black suit with his hands in his pockets while his hair moved gently with the wind.
In his hand was a small sugarplum-purple flower box.
Just seeing his back, Clara let out a quiet breath relief. For some reason everything suddenly felt normal.
She stepped out immediately and her heels pressed softly into the sand as she hurried toward him.
Swoooosh.
A stronger gust rolled across the shore and Clara stopped midway as her body shivered.
Damian finally glanced over his shoulder and their eyes met but he said nothing. He only stretched out his hand, leaving her confused but she stepped closer regardless, and placed her hand in his.
Buzz.
Instantly the cold vanished as if the wind could no longer touched her. Warmth spread around her body naturally and her dress stopped fluttering.
Her hair settled and even the sound of the ocean felt quieter. Clara looked around in confusion.
"What?" Her eyes widened.
She turned slowly and glanced at he ocean but it was still violent. She could see the wind blowing against everything around them but none of it touched her.
"Weird..." She mumbled.
Damian said nothing. Instead he pulled her gently into his embrace and Clara blinked in confusion but slowly hugged him back.
"Is there a problem?" She looked up.
Damian looked at her quietly, then stepped back slightly and studied her face.
His expression softened.
"I told you I’d show you everything." His eyes drifted briefly toward the horizon. "And this is the only place I can do that."
Clara looked around but she saw nothing but water, sand and moonlight pouring down on them.
Damian stopped her search as his fingers gently held her chin, keeping her eyes on him.
"Do you believe in magic?"
Clara’s expression shifted at that question. She never talked about it but if she was honest, there had always been something strange about Damian and his family.
The way being around him felt. Even love itself felt too easy, too perfect and unreal.
"Maybe?" She swallowed
Her answer lacked confidence and Damian laughed quietly.
Then without warnin, his feet left the ground. Clara froze and her lips parted but no sound came out.
She watched him rise higher and then three pairs of black wings erupted from behind him.
Bang.
Lightning tore across the sky. For a brief second the world became white. Damian remained suspended in the air.
Six wings stretched wide as his purple eyes glowed violently under his fluttering suit. He looked less like a man and more like something ancient pretending to be one.
Clara stared at his airborne figure and her expression shifted constantly.
Confusion.
Wonder.
Disbelief.
Excitement.
Shock.
But strangely, not fear. After several minutes, she finally whispered.
"What is this...?"
Honestly, part of her wasn’t completely surprised. She always thought Damian was too beautiful. Even the intimacy, everything about him always felt beyond normal.
Damian didn’t answer. Instead warm energy wrapped around her body and her eyes widened as he began floating slowly.
Unlike the others, the energy did not restrict her movements.Clara turned immediately to look at the moving ground and then to the ocean that stretched endlessly west.
Her breathing became uneven as she quickly looked back toward Damian. The excitement in her eyes became mixed with panic.
"I’m scared of heights." She spoke honestly.
Damian smiled at this. That was the girl he loved. She was always direct and honest, so he is never left guessing.
[Throne Manifestation Activated]
Buzz.
Behind Clara dark mist exploded silently, it expanded rapidly then collapsed instantly, leaving behind a fox themed throne covered in violet fur.
She didn’t notice it forming. Only after it had completely formed that it caught her attention and she turned around, staring at the floating throne in mid-air with awe.
Damian gently placed her on the throne and her eyes widened as her body sank into the fur. Surprisingly, her fear faded instantly.
Only now did she notice the ocean looked beautiful and the moon looked enormous.
Clara inhaled the fresh air greedily and quietly asked;
"Is all of this real?"
Damian floated opposite her and his eyes reflected moonlight.
"If I could make you see things like this wouldn’t that be just as strange?" His smile deepened slightly.
Clara thought for a moment and nodded. Truly, if this was an illusion, that itself would be just as mind blowing as what she was experiencing.
Snap.
Purple flames exploded around them and Clara gasped. The fire spiraled around both of them and she instinctively shut her eyes.
When she opened them, her breath caught as she realized they weren’t above the ocean anymore.
She was now seated inside Damian’s office and her floating throne had replaced her normal chair.
Damian stood behind the desk, emiling calmly. Everything looked real and detail, she was too stunned to speak.
She slowly reached forward and touched the desk. It was warm and solid.
"But yeah, I can do that too." Damian said proudly but Clara didn’t hear him.
Because at that moment her world quietly shattered and for the first time she realized she had never truly known the man she loved.
