Chapter 11 Tea Party (Part 2)
Chapter 11 Tea Party (Part 2)
The carriage drove smoothly to a villa, and Mrs. Green once again reminded the girls to be careful with their manners.
As soon as Thea stepped off the carriage, she saw: a high-ceilinged foyer and an imposing gate, round arched windows and stone corners, exuding elegance and grandeur. Fresh and unconventional, the continuous archways and corridors, and the high-ceilinged living room with its large windows, all captivated her.
As Mrs. Green and her entourage entered the hall, the lady who had been watching the door warmly greeted them, "Oh, Bell, you've finally arrived!"
Mrs. Green was also pleased and continued the conversation, following the lady's lead. She also made sure to introduce Thea and the others to the lady.
While Mrs. Green was having a pleasant conversation with others, Thea and Jennifer slowly shrank into a corner, trying to avoid these annoying social interactions.
Unexpectedly, just as Thea moved to one side of the sofa, she turned around and found that someone was already on the other side.
After looking around and finding no other good seats, Thea had no choice but to bite the bullet and ask to sit with the other two people on the sofa.
When Thea spoke, she realized that they were twin sisters; both had thick, golden curly hair, but the older sister had large, bright eyes, as blue as a deep pool, with long eyelashes that curled gently, skin as white as snow, and the corners of her mouth slightly upturned. Every smile and frown was charming, and just sitting there was like an oil painting.
Compared to her older sister's allure, the younger sister's face is smaller and more delicate, with well-defined features, bright and expressive eyes full of curiosity.
Thea couldn't help but admire the two men's good looks.
The two sisters eventually agreed to sit with Thea. And so, a strange scene unfolded on the sofa: four equally outstanding girls sat together, chatting animatedly and harmoniously despite it being their first meeting.
If (the older sister) Iris knew that someone was thinking this way, she would definitely explain: It was clearly her own sister chatting well with that black-haired guy, where did the four people chatting come from?
The tea party ended quickly. The banquet, which resembled a social gathering, was quite boring for Thea. The taste of the food was completely masked by the smell of money and perfume.
Mrs. Green seemed very happy after her return, naturally because Thea and the other six girls had been invited to a training camp. Ostensibly, it was to provide the girls with extra lessons and select the best among them to receive financial support from the ladies; but secretly…
This time, Mrs. Green did not call the girls to her office, but simply sent a message to them.
Jennifer ran to tell Thea the news while Thea was having her day's lesson with Darcy.
As soon as Jennifer finished speaking, Darcy's face turned pale and his body swayed. Thea, who had been watching Darcy's condition closely, immediately stepped forward to support him.
Darcy waved his hand, refusing Thea's help, and went back to his room to stuff several thick books into Thea and Jennifer's arms.
Jennifer was surprised to find that she had her own book, and glanced at Thea in astonishment. Only after Thea gave her an affirming look did Jennifer accept the heavy book.
Darcy noticed their subtle movements, his eyes flickered, and before they could thank him, he excused himself, saying he was tired and wanted to rest, and saw them out the door.
Back in their dorm room, the two didn't rest either. They sat down at their desks and started flipping through the pile of books Darcy had given them.
As the sun gradually set in the west, the two women finally showed expressions of relief after having read through all the books; they had finally gathered all the evidence.
Now that Thea has the list of orphanage children and the victim testimonies collected by Darcy, all that's left is an opportunity to completely eliminate Mrs. Green and the people behind her.
Thinking about the news Jennifer brought that afternoon, a plan slowly formed in Thea's mind.
Thea never expected that in this so-called training camp, in addition to the other four people from the orphanage, she would also encounter the pair of sisters.
Compared to their last meeting, Thea keenly noticed that the older sister seemed more tired, while the younger sister still looked as innocent as ever.
Daisy (the younger sister) was already a little afraid of places with so many strangers, otherwise she wouldn't have dragged her older sister (Elise) to a corner at the last tea party.
Upon suddenly seeing other familiar faces, Daisy would have run off towards Thea like a runaway horse if her sister hadn't been holding her hand the whole time.
Iris couldn't understand why her sister would get along so well with a girl she had only met once. She looked the girl up and down, wondering what good qualities the girl had besides being a little prettier than her.
Thinking of this, Iris let out a meaningless sneer, which drew a disapproving look from her sister.
To prevent her younger sister from completely siding with that vixen, Iris quickly lowered her head to coax her, trying to draw her attention back to Iris.
Daisy gave a haughty snort as she watched her sister "humbly" trying to appease her, but a hint of worry flashed in her eyes: her sister didn't come back to the room again last night, and that person's temper has been getting worse and worse lately. She wondered how her sister would deal with it.
Looking at the black-haired girl standing straight not far away, Daisy secretly hoped that if the other party not only had ambition but also the ability to match it, she would be happy. She just hoped that she had not chosen the wrong person and that she and her sister could get away from this stinking ditch.
Thea and the others waited in the villa's lobby for almost half an hour before a man claiming to be the organizer of the training camp arrived late. Fortunately, he didn't give a long speech; he simply informed the girls of the accommodation and course arrangements before leaving in a hurry.
This was exactly what Thea and Daisy wanted. So, no sooner had Thea entered the bedroom than the room welcomed its first visitors: the smiling Daisy and the grumpy Iris.
Since you can't hit someone who's smiling, Thea had no choice but to let the two in. She also called Jennifer, who lived in the next room, over, saying that it would be more lively with more people.
Jennifer, completely bewildered, had just entered the house when she saw Iris, acting as if she were an outsider, scrutinizing every decoration and furnishing in Thea's room.
Meanwhile, Thea, whom Jennifer considered the "big devil," was actually listening obediently to Iris's criticisms with a smile on her face, which made Jennifer's hair stand on end.
Jennifer remembered that the last time Thea smiled so sweetly was probably in front of Mrs. Green…
Actually, Jennifer really misunderstood Thea this time. At first, Thea didn't take Iris's pickiness to heart, thinking that the other party was just putting on a show.
But as Thea listened, she realized that Iris wasn't just talking nonsense; on the contrary, her words made sense. So she turned her attention to her and wanted to hear her insights on home decoration and furnishing.
