Chapter 73 Which college are you going to?
A few days later, the gentle glow of the setting sun shone on the windowsill of the bedroom on the third floor of McGregor Farm.
Lucas sat at his desk, unfolded a roll of parchment, and lightly dipped the quill pen into the inkwell.
Dear Luna:
Spread the letter good.
Thank you so much for your encouragement. My long-awaited fantasies were all dashed, and I was indeed feeling down, but now I've completely figured it out.
The culinary world of the magical realm is currently a regrettable wasteland, but from another perspective, isn't this exactly the new world that I need to explore and create?
Transforming undiscovered magical ingredients into unparalleled delicacies, researching magical medicinal cuisine with miraculous effects, and even creating magic that makes food even more delicious and tempting—this is my culinary journey, the dream I pursue!
The scenery ahead will be created by my own hands, and just thinking about it is incredibly exciting. I will fight for it forever!
Regarding your previous letter about how your father's "Gordigen tea" always turned black and tasted bitter, since I haven't actually tasted it, I can only guess that the Gordigen was over-oxidized during the brewing process.
I suggest you try adding a few drops of lemon juice next time you brew tea. Vitamin C and citric acid are effective antioxidants, help keep the tea clear, and might even balance the bitterness of the galvanic orange, bringing a refreshing fruity aroma. You can give it a try.
By the way, if Pepper, the messenger, can carry it, you could have him bring me a Gordigan to study.
Tomorrow I'm leaving for Hogwarts. I've heard it has the largest magical library in all of Britain, and many learned professors. Don't worry, I'll help you look up information on 'harassing flies,' figure out the habits of these magical creatures and how to deal with them. Hopefully, they won't give me too much of a headache during this time.
Also, next time you write to me, please remember to send it directly to Hogwarts.
Your sincere Lucas.
Lucas signed his name at the end of the parchment and blew the ink dry.
Through their correspondence over this period, he had become pen pals with a girl named Luna Lovegood. Luna was a very interesting girl with a wildly imaginative mind, and she would often mention some strange and interesting creatures, which Lucas found fascinating.
He folded the letter and turned to look out the window.
A cheerful and clear laugh came from beside their sheepfold.
"Well done, Buck! Flank them from the left! Oh ho, good dog!"
Ellie was standing on the wooden fence, waving her arms excitedly and cheering loudly for the sheepdog's wonderful performance. The setting sun cast a long shadow of her.
With only a few days left of his vacation, Lucas decided to leave Diagon Alley and return to the farm to visit his grandfather Finley.
Allie readily agreed to come along and was warmly received by Grandpa. Hannah, on the other hand, also wanted to come, but she had been living in Diagon Alley for a month, and her parents had sent several letters to Old Tom, forcing her to return home.
Lucas folded the letter and tied it to Pepper's foot.
"No crab meat!" Pepper jumped up and down in dissatisfaction. "This is the middle of the night, and you fucking made me travel thousands of miles to deliver a love letter to you? Where's your conscience?"
Lucas laughed and said, "This isn't a love letter. Besides, you fly so fast, it's a piece of cake."
"No, no!" Pepper shook her head vigorously. "You're such a lecherous boy, you can't resist any pretty girl. Luna is a year younger than you, she's only ten!"
"From ninety-nine-year-olds to toddlers, they're all beasts! Worse than beasts! I'm not going to push your butt!"
Lucas ignored the profanity and asked curiously, "So, Luna is pretty?"
Pepper stared at Lucas with ill intent, then suddenly leaped into the air and shouted, "Ellie! Come quick! Lucas's been secretly writing letters to other girls behind your back! He's even asking them if they're pretty! Ellie—"
"Petrify them all!" Lucas raised his wand.
Pepper screamed and disappeared into the air in a flash.
Lucas laughed. He was just trying to scare Pepper; he knew the Threads had taken effect, and he left Diagon Alley, where magic was forbidden on this Muggle farm.
......
After seeing Pepper off, Lucas looked out the window again and saw his grandfather and Ellie walking back, chatting and laughing.
Oh, this old man, his face is beaming with joy. I can't even remember the last time he smiled was a few years ago. I never knew this grumpy, stubborn old man could smile.
Ellie was warmly welcomed by Finley McGregor as soon as she arrived. The old man was all smiles as he took her to the farm to herd cattle and sheep, feed the livestock, shear sheep, repair fences, and collect eggs. Ellie had a great time, and her grandfather seemed to have become a few years younger.
So, does that mean the grandfather actually prefers his granddaughter to his grandson?
......
As night deepened, warm lights illuminated the bedroom.
Tomorrow we're leaving for King's Cross Station, and the bedroom floor is covered with packages of all sizes. Lucas is packing them into a leather trunk that's about half his height.
The packages of varying sizes disappeared as if swallowed up after being placed inside the suitcase.
"Ellie, thanks to your trunks," Lucas said. "Otherwise, I don't know how I would have gotten all this stuff to Hogwarts. I probably wouldn't have been able to carry ten trunks."
This is a leather suitcase that Ellie brought from home, enchanted with a Seamless Stretch Charm. The interior space is astonishing, comparable to the farm's storage room. It can hold a lot of odds and ends, and it's very lightweight; Lucas can easily lift it with one hand.
Ellie had already packed her own things and was now lying on Lucas's bed, propping her chin up and watching Lucas bustling around. Her shapely legs swayed gently in the air, and her purple eyes sparkled.
The supplies on the school admission list, along with various magic books, toys, and tools donated by enthusiastic wizards, were all packed and stuffed inside. Then there were Lucas's various spice bottles and seasonings, a carefully maintained set of kitchen knives, several iron pots of different sizes, large iron spoons, and other kitchen utensils, as well as Muggle ingredients and herbs that are hard to find in the magical world...
Finally, Lucas put in a bag of strange and unusual lucky charms, including an old diary, and then he finished packing all his luggage and closed the suitcase.
He breathed a sigh of relief, went to the kitchen and brought back two cups of hot milk, plopped down next to Ellie, and handed her one of the cups.
"Ellie, you're going to Hogwarts tomorrow, are you ready?"
"Of course!" Ellie said, holding her cup. "I can't wait!"
"Although Professor Sprout and Mr. Abbott are unwilling to reveal the method of sorting, which of the four houses do you want to go to?" Lucas asked curiously.
Ellie bit the rim of her cup, looking somewhat lost.
"I know absolutely nothing about this. But..."
She tilted her head, then suddenly smiled brightly: "Wherever you go, I'll go."
Outside the window, the evening breeze gently rustled through the glass, making a soft, gentle sound. Lucas looked at the bright and genuine young woman before him and smiled.
"Okay, let's be together."
