In terms of teaching style, Professor Quirrell and Professor Binns are exactly the same:
Read the text aloud verbatim.
Although the old ghost Binns' tone was dull, at least he read it very fluently, almost to the point of reciting it backwards.
Occasionally, when he was in a good mood, he would tell the young wizards some interesting supplementary topics, such as some anecdotal history.
And what about Professor Quirrell?
He couldn't even read the text fluently.
In addition to his stuttering problem,
Listening to his lectures is a disaster.
Levin strongly suspected that Dumbledore was willing to invite Professor Quirrell simply because no one else had signed up.
For this reason, Professor Quirrell was ridiculed by the young wizards.
Everyone says that Quirrell's garlic smell is to ward off a vampire he encountered in Romania—even at Hogwarts, he was afraid that the vampire would turn around and grab him.
Quirrell tried to explain that his large scarf was a gift from an African prince who was thanking him for helping him get rid of a resurrected zombie, but no one believed his story.
When Seamus Finigan impatiently asked Professor Quirrell how he defeated the resurrected zombie, the professor blushed and mumbled incoherently.
Even Hermione, who was most respectful of her teachers, couldn't help but complain: "Professor Quirrell doesn't seem to be very good at teaching? Is it because he's nervous about being a professor for the first time?"
She herself didn't believe it, but she just didn't want to speak ill of the professor.
Levin shattered his illusions: "This isn't Quirrell's first time as a professor; he previously taught Muggle studies at the university."
Hermione's face fell, and she became increasingly disappointed with the future of this course.
The thought of having to go through Defense Against the Dark Arts like this for the next seven years made her dizzy.
Levin is quite optimistic; he's at least better than Gilderoy Lockhart.
Chapter 23 Duel Invitation
In just one week, Levin fully demonstrated his talent.
The young wizards and professors at Hogwarts already knew that Ravenclaw had a remarkably outstanding first-year student.
Despite being Muggle-born, his magical talent and learning ability surpass those of many pure-bloods.
He excels in any subject, whether it's Transfiguration, Charms, or Potions; nothing can stump him.
Even in flying lessons, Levin was one of the best flyers among the first-year wizards.
Although Levin's physical abilities were only average, he didn't forget to cast a triple combo of [Bear's Tenacity], [Bull's Strength], and [Cat's Grace] on himself before class.
The bear's tenacity endowed him with inexhaustible physical strength.
The "Strength of the Ox" grants him tremendous explosive power.
The "Cat's Elegance" ability allows him to move as nimbly as a cat.
It must be said that the duration of attribute enhancement spells is quite long.
Maintaining attendance for one or two classes is no problem.
What's most ingenious is that all three are Levin's own creations, and their principles are quite different from most spells and transfigurations.
It is virtually impossible for it to be detected.
With a three-pronged approach, Levin instantly transformed into a flying broomstick genius, making a great impression during Ms. Hodge's flight lesson.
But after the flying lessons in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff,
The lesson between the little lions and the little snakes went awry, almost escalating into a brawl.
That evening, in a corner of the library, Levin ran into Harry again.
Or rather, Harry and Ron came specifically to find him.
During this period, Levin's life was extremely regular. He usually only appeared in three places: the classroom, the library, and the auditorium.
"Levin, I knew you'd be here."
Levin put down "The Mad Magic of the Strange Wizard" and looked up at several "old" friends he had known before entering the school: "Hey, why did you guys come all this way to see me?"
"We're not in the same house, so apart from a few classes, we've never been together. Our classes always overlap with those awful Slytherins."
Harry complained, "You spend all your time in the library... I reckon the only one in Gryffindor who runs into you regularly is that haughty, know-it-all girl."
“I’ve heard about what you did today. During flying class, Harry did something really good, helping Longbottom get the Memory Ball from Malfoy.”
Levin described the rumors he had heard today.
Even in the library, he could hear many young wizards talking about it.
Mrs. Pince got angry about this more than once.
“Yes, you have no idea how dangerous it was today. Harry dove fifty feet and grabbed the memory orb.”
Ron's expression was radiant; what had he forgotten?
Levin was quite curious about this.
"He forgot to wear his Hogwarts robes," Ron said with a hint of schadenfreude.
But he got a little carried away and started speaking too loudly.
"Hey, be quiet! This is a library."
Mrs. Pince, the librarian, waved a feather duster and warned them.
"For this matter, Malfoy proposed a wizarding duel to us."
Harry lowered his voice and looked at Levin with a troubled expression, seeking his help.
"Levin, you know, I know very little magic."
Levin's performance in class this week had impressed everyone, so he immediately thought of asking him for help.
“Malfoy’s assistant is Crabbe, and I’m here to be Harry’s assistant, but he thinks you have a better chance of success,” Ron added, looking at them with some displeasure.
He didn't have a problem with Levin; he acknowledged that Levin's grades were good, but that didn't mean his actual combat ability was outstanding.
Recalling a scene from the original book, Levin countered, "Didn't you consider that Malfoy might be playing a trick on you?"
“But…but a wizard can’t run away from a duel that has already begun, that would be so embarrassing!” Ron said hastily, eager to teach Malfoy a lesson.
Indeed, under normal circumstances, Ron is right.
Malfoy, after all, was a member of the ancient Holy Twenty-Eight Families.
These pure-blood wizards, upholding their own honor, would certainly not shy away from duels—they take this very seriously.
In the original story, Malfoy was able to outwit Harry only because he was just a first-year wizard, and no one would take such a childish duel seriously.
If they were any adults, Malfoy's actions would only bring shame upon the family.
Therefore, he couldn't convince them with that reason.
"Levin, will you say yes?" Harry looked at him expectantly.
“…Alright, Harry.” Having said that, Levin couldn’t very well refuse.
After all, they're considered friends in the Muggle world.
"We're going to win!" Ron and Harry clapped their hands excitedly.
But this time they all forgot to lower their voices.
"No more noise in the library! All of you get out!" Mrs. Pince finally lost her temper and came running over, waving a feather duster.
"Then Levin, see you at the prize display room at 11:30 tonight." Seeing that things were not going well, the two of them ran away from the library.
"Are you really going to duel Malfoy?" Steve, who was engrossed in his homework, suddenly looked up from across from Levin.
“Don’t worry, there won’t be any problems,” Levin said confidently.
He happened to be studying the [Illusionary Body] spell today, which is mentioned in the book "The Mad Magic of the Strange Wizard," and during this time, he had an epiphany about the [Invisibility] spell.
Compared to the Disappearance spell in the Harry Potter world, the Invisibility spell in arcane magic is far more effective.
The former is not only difficult to learn, but its effect is merely a color change—making the disguised person or object appear like a chameleon, with its color and texture matching the surrounding environment.
The [Invisibility] spell truly makes one invisible, and this spell is only level 2, making it much easier to learn than the [Illusion] spell.
After listening to Levin's words, Steve nodded: "Indeed, for young wizards our age, a duel is nothing more than two people exchanging sparks, what could possibly happen?"
"And the only consequence of getting caught is a deduction of points, which you can recover in a few days."
It was 11:30 p.m., which was curfew time.
Levin tiptoed out of bed, cast an invisibility spell on himself, and easily made his way to the prize display room on the fourth floor.
The awards display room contains all the honors he has received in the past:
Prizes, statues, trophies, plates, shields, and medals are all displayed in crystal display cases.
Here is also a list containing all the male and female student council presidents.
Levin discovered that he was actually the first one to arrive, and he wandered aimlessly among the display cases.
When Harry and the others arrived, Levin was admiring a Triwizard Tournament trophy.
